About the Show

The Artemizia Foundation is thrilled to announce the opening of Of Watchers, Tricksters, and the Bold, a dynamic new exhibition by acclaimed contemporary artist Michele Mikesell. Hosted at the Foundation’s vibrant Gallery 818 space in Bisbee, Arizona, the exhibition will run from Saturday, May 17 through Sunday, June 22, 2025.

Mikesell, known for her enigmatic portraits and symbolic storytelling, presents a compelling collection of new paintings that delve into themes of observation, duality, and daring. Of Watchers, Tricksters, and the Bold captures the essence of human and animal archetypes through Mikesell’s signature blend of realism, patterns and abstraction, weaving together mythic narratives with modern sensibilities.

Each work invites the viewer into a rich psychological landscape, where "watchers" observe and judge, "tricksters" challenge the status quo, and "the bold" forge new paths through uncertainty. Mikesell’s lush, textured surfaces and sophisticated use of color lend an almost sculptural presence to her canvases, creating a dialogue between seen and unseen, hero and antihero.

Sloane Bouchever, Director of the Artemizia Foundation, describes Mikesell’s exhibition as a vital contribution to the Foundation’s 2025 season:

“Michele Mikesell’s exhibition at Artemizia Foundation’s Gallery 818 invites viewers into a space where storytelling, symbolism, and raw beauty converge in unforgettable ways. It is a privilege to champion this wonderful artist’s voice and vision."
