Veil (aerosol on canvas; 72 × 94 in) is one of Rock CYFI Martinez’s most striking explorations of concealment, transformation, and the blurred boundary between human and animal form. A face emerges from patterned light and shadow, its upward gaze partially obscured by a textured overlay that behaves like a net of illumination.
Beneath the portrait, a skeletal serpent rises, vertebrae, jawbones, and sharp teeth rendered with anatomical precision, creating a powerful tension between softness and danger, humanity and instinct.
Martinez’s aerosol technique allows the forms to dissolve and reappear, shifting between realism and abstraction as warm hues collide with deep, atmospheric darkness. In Veil, identity becomes something layered and unstable, revealed only through the interplay of light, bone, and breath.
