In this powerful 2026 mixed‑medium assemblage and resin work, created in memory of Grace Wisher, Danielle Scott interweaves archival imagery, cotton, and weathered Americana to confront the layered histories embedded in the nation’s fabric. Measuring 16 x 20 inches, the piece juxtaposes Black laborers in the field with fragments of the American flag, creating a charged visual dialogue about identity, belonging, and the cost of citizenship. Textures of aged wood, fabric, and found materials echo generational memory, while the composition’s deliberate stitching and structural seams underscore how stories of labor, resilience, and injustice are literally and symbolically sewn into the country’s foundation. Through its tactile depth and historical references, this original artwork invites viewers to reckon with the truths that lie beneath national mythologies.
