Reversible Emerald Vysions (thread, acrylic, raw canvas; 32 x 45 in) is a theatrical, layered portrait that merges stitched construction with painted surfaces to create a face that feels both performed and revealed.
Each feature is built on its own textile fragment, then sewn into place with thread lines that wander, overlap, and animate the surface. Star motifs, exaggerated makeup, and the ruffled collar introduce a sense of character and costume, suggesting a persona assembled through gesture, memory, and façade.
The stitched contours pull the image slightly apart, revealing how identity can be constructed from fragments that carry their own histories. In this work, Kole continues her exploration of surfaces that are never neutral, where what appears on the face is only one version of the story beneath it.
