Redress (thread, acrylic, mixed textiles; 20 x 16 in) is a compact yet deeply expressive portrait built from stitched fragments and painted textile layers.

The face emerges through loose, wandering thread lines that trace and retrace the contours, giving the image a sense of vulnerability and reconstruction.

Fabric patches with frayed edges introduce a tactile softness, while the painted washes shift between warmth and shadow, suggesting the emotional weight carried on the surface.

In this work, Brandi Kole turns to the quieter scale of portraiture to explore how identity can be mended, reconsidered, or reassembled a redress in both material and meaning, where familiar textiles hold the traces of personal history and transformation.
