Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, Arizona-based self-taught artist Suomo (Sw OH mo) draws much inspiration from her multi-cultural heritage and upbringing in Central, Western, and Southern Africa. Having spent most of her life drawing, Suomo began painting in 2021 and developed a deep connection with the expressive medium.

Through the lens of her own experiences of loss, disconnection, and struggles with mental illness, Suomo studies the generational impact of colonialization on sense of self, spirituality, and mental well-being for people of the African diaspora.
